Matillion style guide overview

Our aim with this style guide is to give editorial guidelines for writing precise and concise Matillion-related documentation. People often seek out and consult style guides when the flow of their writing is disrupted by one of the following (non-exhaustive) matters:

  • Connotations of a word.
  • Context of a word.
  • Punctuation rules such as the Oxford comma or choosing em dashes or en dashes.
  • Grammatical rules such as active voice, tense, third or second person, and so on.
  • Spelling conventions. Matillion uses American English, not British English.
  • Usage of numbers and symbols.
  • Units of measurement and the formatting therein.

Do your research when you encounter a word, phrase, rule, or lack thereof that ultimately makes you think about usage. Software documentation helps to offset the fact that developers and engineers can't possibly remember every detail of a programming language or framework—and likewise, style guides and other writing materials exist to assist writers of all disciplines.

If the Matillion style guide does not answer a question you have with regards to style, we ask that you consult the following style guides.
