Tech note: Bitbucket Cloud app password deprecation

Atlassian is deprecating app password authentication for Bitbucket Cloud. Brownout periods begin on June 9, 2026, with the change completing on July 28, 2026. For details, see the Atlassian community blog.

After July 28, 2026, app passwords will no longer work for Bitbucket authentication. API tokens are required in their place.

All Matillion ETL customers who use Bitbucket Cloud for Git functionality in Matillion ETL.

What do you need to do?

If you use Bitbucket for Matillion ETL Git integration, replace your Bitbucket app password with an API token before July 28, 2026.

1. Generate an API token in your Bitbucket account.
2. Update your Matillion ETL Git configuration to use the API token in place of your app password.
3. Set up a token rotation plan before your token expires to avoid interruptions to your Matillion ETL projects.

API tokens expire after the period you select when creating them. Ensure you have a rotation plan in place to prevent development interruptions.
