Removal of Manage CDC from Matillion ETL

On 1st March, 2023, in the 1.69.0 release notes, we announced that the Manage CDC feature would be deprecated in version 1.71, which released on 30th May, 2023. We also announced that the Manage CDC feature would be removed from the product shortly after its end-of-life (EOL) date of 1st December, 2024.

As planned, from 1st December, 2024, Manage CDC will be EOL. We will then remove this feature in an upcoming release. Manage CDC will then no longer be available on future versions of Matillion ETL.

Once Manage CDC is removed from Matillion ETL, we will deprecate the page Enable Manage CDC, which allowed users to enable the Manage CDC menu item from version 1.71 until the EOL release.

Why is Manage CDC end of life?

• On 8th August, 2024, Matillion launched Streaming pipelines in the Data Productivity Cloud—a modernized, more feature-complete offering compared to Manage CDC. Streaming pipelines are a complete end-to-end solution for near-real-time data ingestion, allowing you to capture and synchronize data from source databases and write to a target data warehouse or cloud storage location.
  • Supported data sources are:
    • Db2 for IBM i
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • MySQL
    • Oracle
    • PostgreSQL
  • Supported data targets are:
    • Snowflake
    • Amazon S3
    • Azure Blob Storage
• Manage CDC in Matillion ETL offers a smaller number of data sources when compared to streaming pipelines in the Data Productivity Cloud.
• Matillion's Manage CDC feature for Matillion ETL is based on AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), which Matillion cannot prevent AWS altering or deprecating in the future.

What do I need to do?

Try our streaming pipelines product

We advise and invite any Matillion ETL customers using Manage CDC to trial our Streaming pipelines product in the Data Productivity Cloud to experience our robust offering for data streaming.

Can I keep using Manage CDC?

If you are using an older version of Matillion ETL (1.70 or older), you can still use Manage CDC. However, we advise all customers to either regularly upgrade across short-term support (STS) versions for the latest features, bug fixes, and security enhancements, or to upgrade to a long-term support (LTS) version for extended support on that version.

Matillion does not maintain any of the older versions of Matillion ETL that currently include Manage CDC. These older versions will not receive new features, bug fixes, or security enhancements. Therefore, we advise upgrading to a supported release version.

Warning

Manage CDC is based on AWS DMS. Matillion has no control over any changes that AWS may make to DMS. Matillion has no plans to perform maintenance on Manage CDC in the event of any breaking changes to AWS DMS.
